Test Casting

I was double anchored near my last pole and baited waiting for them to set a little before throwing. I test casted every now and then from that position to see if they were there yet and evetually they showed up on a test cast. We were getting good numbers on two bait locations from that anchored position and then we started seeing 30 to 40 shrimp per throw. I scrambled and told the wife if they are this good here, our poles must be banging… so we picked up and left a red hot spot to run the poles and the poles never did produce like our test spot??? Should you ever leave a hot spot or is it luck of the draw? I am open to all opinions…

I always think that and do exactly what you did. Sometimes they are hot… sometimes not. Luck of the draw.

Problem is when they are hot in a test spot and you don’t go check the poles and then they turn off you kick yourself saying you should have run the poles…

Same thing happened to us Saturday at Bull’s. Anchored at the two seaward poles and waited. They turned on there and ran hot. We then ran the poles and it was all light after that. Good night out though.

Yea we stayed Friday 10/5/2012 night with them and it took all night to fill the cooler. very nice night but man I wish I could limit faster, I have to make those trips count. They are expensive trips and the season is short.

I heard that about “making those trips count”. Coming from Leesville gets expensive. Tomorrow I’ll be going down by way of Garden City to handle something on the way. Shrimp would be a world cheaper at the dock but not as much fun.
