By the way, is that a bonito or false albacore? Some of my buddies and I have been arguing about it.

That is a flase albacore or bonita they are the same thing

no they are not the same thing. that is a little tuny aka a false albacore. bonitos have different markings on their backs.

Its a false albarco aka [little tuna] bonita is different fish.

the fish id section of theis website calls them both the same thing

20’ Key West CC 140 Johnson

“Can you swim 5 miles, “No”, Than what is the difference in 5 miles and 50 miles”

slang…lil tunny, false albacore, bonita.

real…little tunny (shown in pic)

real…bonita (not shown in pic)

Like tlread said if you look in the fish id section over on the left side of this page and look up little tunny (aka bonita aka false albore) all the same fish. now the bonita on the west coast have diffrent markings also I have a fish id book that calls that a bonita. Hope this helps

Bonito and Bonita are two diffent fish. Bonita = Little Tunny = False Albacore. A Bonito is different, it is a little more like a mackeral with teeth and a more slender body, there are also different markings on the side of a Bonito.

This is my East Coast deffinition.

JP

either way the guy’s face is scary.

Yea looking at the guys in the boat all day turns you into this .

JohhnyP, Your definition is close, but a Bonita is a female spanish little tunny, and the Bonito is the male.

learn something new everyday thanks skirtchaser

those things sure grill up nice!

Hey, who is that with my name???

28 Mako 250 Yammies

Tlread and NFishing, I don’t know where you saw that…I looked and it is two totally different fish on the fish ID of this site. Here are the pics straight from the Fish ID section:

Lil Tunny

Atlantic Bonito

Now whether you say Bonito or Bonita - who cares as long as you know there are two fish that look alike, one sucks on the table and the other doesn’t.

Blue_Runner, I think I know where the confusion is a Bonito is not a Bonita. The Bonita/flase albacore is a nickname (Aka) for the Little Tunny part of the tuna family. The Atlantic Bonito is a Mackeral. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

Who is that with my name? :face_with_head_bandage: Just when you think you have a good boat name (4 years ago) everyone else has it or already had it. You don’t find out until you put the boat in the water. Next time you should come up with something a little more original.
