Texas record low maximums

for all you climate change nerds…the amazing part is that the DFW and Abilene records were broken by 5 degrees…rarely are records broken by more than a couple of degrees either way…

On Monday, July 15, 2013, a record-low high temperature of 74 degrees was measured at the Dallas-Fort Worth Airport (check out the special statement from the National Weather Service). The previous record for the date stood for over a century (79 degrees set in 1900).

Record-low high temperatures were also set at San Angelo and Abilene, TX, on July 15 (68 degrees and 71 degrees, respectively; see the special NWS statement above). More importantly, these readings became the lowest high temperatures ever observed during the month of July at these two airports.

Any time records for low high temperatures are set during summer, it’s a safe bet that it was cloudy and rainy during for most of the daytime hours. Such was the case over Texas, as the meteograms at these three Texas cities attest (Dallas-Fort Worth, Abilene, San Angelo). To get your bearings, the three meteograms each span from 00Z on July 15 to 00Z on July 16 and the daytime hours in Texas span from roughly 10Z to 02Z.
