Thanks BARF Sleigh Riders

Just wanted to thank YotF and p4r for the invite down and the hospitality. Had a blast and the MR14 managed the sea trials OK. I on the other hand was one sore sole Sunday evening! p4r’s quote about “the Broad River can kick up fast” was an under statement! Sheesh - that was some paddling Sunday afternoon. Anyway, I only caught one shark on Saturday but what a great group of guys. Had a lot of fun and left with the desire to it again.

I did learn some things though…

  1. McPhearson’s has good BBQ and cold beer…
  2. Don’t scrimp on the eels to save a few bucks (for me anyway - no more eels? - no more hits)…
  3. Use bolts instead of screws for rod holders (one solid hit pulled one of the three screws out on the Ram tube).
  4. Keep the drags set LOOSE… usually I set the drags at 1/2 the line strength - not a good idea in a yak though it makes for some interesting bursts of adrenalin.
  5. You CAN take too much crap with you in a yak…
  6. There are WAY too many 'coons at HI State Park…
  7. It is illegal to “consume or display” alchohol at any SC state park (thanks Ranger Man for waiving the $425 fine “this time”- whew!)
  8. Oh, did I mention the BR can kick up fast?!

Thanks again Barfers… had a blast!

Krooz

Thanks Kroos…

Look forward to meeting and fishing with you again…

Did this trip convine the wife that she might want to kayak fish?

Let me know when you want to hit the area again, especially 3rd Bn Pond… (Hint, Hint)

Can I say for sure, see you in November for the BARF Hunting Island gathering and Frogmore Stew? (BTW: Stinkey Fingers was thinking about renting one of trhe cabins then, as party central…)

YotF

Those who can’t fish, spend too much on seafood!

The wife hasn’t totally ruled out the kayak purchase but she has said she really isn’t interested in fishing out of one. I think my gator sightings have her spooked about yaking at the house (I need to keep the stories to myself). No way she’d go out where we went over the weekend.

November is too far off to say for sure just yet. All depends on the timing and how the deer season is going etc. Did scope out the lagoon before we left and it does look “fishy”!

Mornin’;
