Thanks Jerry…don’t give up on the umbrella rig retrievers though, they will definitely save you money…I can share some tips with you that will help. The key is not to get your line wrapped around whatever obstacle your u-rig is hung up on… I’ve found Lake Murray to be very u-rig friendly compared to other lakes I have fished and I get 90% of my u-rigs back that get hung up. Another trick I like with leadcore line is to tip my bucktail jig with a live blueback instead of curly tail trailer…No, they won’t live very long while being trolled, but sometimes it doesn’t take very long to get bit either…
Definitely “zizag” while trolling…Lots of bites in the turns for sure… My largest fish on a u-rig came from Lake Lanier @ 29 lbs. I like u-rigs for scouting points and humps and covering lots of ground…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
