My buddy Steve and I were fishing the Lady Anglers tournament and running out in about 50’ of water having’ some pretty good king action on Saturday, we look back behind the motor and the largest Cobia both of us had ever seen is cruising behind the boat. He had just boated a 63 lb. cobia earlier this season and this fish put it to shame. Typical of a last minute decision to fish, I left the gaff at the house. After hailing numerous boats in the area the Capt. of Donna’s Worry was kind enough to bring us a gaff. I did have one other offer but I dont know who it was, thanks to you as well Capt.
We had the fish near the boat probably a dozen times. My arms needed to be about 2 feet longer. I did get one shot at her about 35 minutes in, but it was a stretch. I think she would have yanked me right in, if I had gotten a hold of her at that point. It’s like that monster new just how far away to stay. After a bit over two hours into it and almost 2 miles from where we originally started the fight the 15lb power pro gave out. Will definitely be at the top of the “one that got away” story list.
Anyway, thank again Capt. for the gaff. I’ve always got my ears on when I’m out there, so if you need anything don’t hesitate to hail me.
