We just returned from out annual Thanksgiving get away/reunion type event that we’ve been doing for about 10 years now. I went down a day early and arrived the Saturday before to fish that afternoon with my son and a friend of his for some eats for the house before everyone got there on Sunday.
We were targeting trout, but got into a mess of redfish on the ICW and caught 15. Kept 5 upper slot fish and a few trout. All caught on 4" white grubs w/ 1/4 oz jig head.
The rest of the week, when weather permitted, I did a lot of fishing with the kids and they had a ball. Between all the arguing, tangled lines and snags they managed to catch some trout and a couple of small reds. Again, all on grubs.
I even got out one night with my son and BIL. Only got in a couple of hours, but picked up a couple of nice over the slot reds before the rain started back up.
Our check out day was Sunday. However, my wife was very disappointed that we hadn’t been keeping any trout to bring home. I was hoping to get home and get started on a leaking garbage disposal and finish up some painting, but I know how she really loves trout, so I decided to fish another day. She’s been a very good wife and mother. I figured that’s the least I can do.
Started off at a spot on the ICW and was catching fish after fish, but they were all very small. Only used TT’s
Thanks for the report and ESPECIALLY the pics, way to get after them out there! Beautiful report all around, way to keep the lady all smiles. Hope I can put one up like this, maybe one day. There isn’t a better feeling in the world than passing on the bug to a young one.
Lots of folks seem to be catching a ton of fish lately, with zero pics. Probably overstepping my boundaries here but…it’s 2014, whip out your cell phone and snap a picture. Otherwise, those 200 redfish you caught in 3 hours are about as legit as your post.
