The Adventure Begins

Got “Rogue Wave” all rigged up and took her out to Fort Moultrie for a test run. At 10:30a waves were in the 1-3 ft range winds out of the SE 5-7mph. Man she is fast, got up to speed in no time. I haven’t sailed my Sunfish in 8 years but the AI is very user friendly. I was able to tack and sailing up current at a good clip. Then turned around toward Fort Sumter, down wind and with the current, man what a rush. This thing is fast! 2:30p winds were picking up and dark clouds started coming in from SW. Headed back in. No fishing, just sailing. More pics to come.

That’s a hoss…

You’ll be trolling in style this spring!

Wow, that is awesome. Fishing and sailing are my two favorite hobbies so you’ve got it made in my book! Would love to see some more pics!

How possible do you think it would be to rig a wilderness tarpon 120 with that sail?

You would have to take some measurements and retrofit everything. Hobie sells all the stuff separately but honestly it would probably cost more than its worth.

Search youtube for homemade sails…there are several videos out there with folks that made homemade sails…one nice one was made out of a shower curtain.

That is (**() cool.

Did you have a lot of sailing knowledge before operating this? Or, would this sort of thing be a good craft to learn on?

Also, if it got messy, I guess you could take the sail down (the entire mast) and just paddle it?

It is not hard to learn. I have previous sailing experience so the learning curve was pretty short.

Getting my peacock on! Here’s my custom rod holder version 2. The first one only held two rods. This one can hold up to six. I think I’ll probably only carry 2-3 and use the rest of the spots for gaff, net, and such.
