The easier it becomes to admit defeat, and especially to not take it personally. As I’ve progressed up the fishing skill ladder, I’ve learned sometimes the fish just win.
But, whether I win or they win, I try and learn something every time I go. Sometimes I learn I should have gone bowling instead.
JerkBait: Fishing isn’t a win or lose situation!!! If you’re fortunate enough to be wetting a hook you’re already winning ,if
you’re catching anything that’s iceing on the cake, keep on winning
you’ll run into the cake before you know it…
I agree. If they are shut off really bad I’ll punt rather than grind it out. It comes with being confident that you are in a spot at the right tide with the right presentation and they are not having it…takes experience…

Jerk bait, like I’ve always said… the best fishermen are the ones that go often. I don’t care what anyone says, even the best of the best have bad days. There are days that you can do no wrong and use darn near any bait and other days that the best “go to” lure my do no good.
Just remember, if the fish win, you win as well. Nothing like being on the water win or loose. I think the days of fishing to feed a family are pretty much a thing of the past. I even practice a little catch and release from time to time as long as Dad isn’t with me.
Heck; if what you only want is fish, just use an old field army crank phone and drop the leads over the side. Then pretend the phone is a reel and crank it like a Zebco 202 on a 20 lb Carp…

I’m fortunate my job is flexible and I get to go fishing almost as often as I care to. I haven’t been a fish harvester for years. More often than not 100% of my catch is released. It’s almost all just fun fishing. I’ll let friends keep one slot red and a couple of trout, as long as they promise to eat them fresh! There are fish already caught, dead, and frozen for your convenience at the grocery store.
When the bite is off, it is a great time to experiment with new lures and techniques. Many times, the fish are around and eating. They are just not eating where you go and what you throw. Trying something different will often put a few fish in the boat.
