the bite must be either slow or the bite is hot.

No one has given a report in a while. that usually means fishing is really slow or its really hot. with this cooler weather, im hoping to start seeing better schools. i went out friday to do some perch jerkin and scout some new spots. i struggled for a while and then decided to try one of my old faithful spots and the bite was on fire for about 20-30 minutes and then just quit. but was able to catch around 20 or 30 and kept a few to eat for dinner.

Red hot on Saturday ended up with 6 keepers and 40+ shorts mostly 18-20" fish with a couple of peanuts. Ran out of bait around noon and when we started to head back to the ramp they came up schooling on top for 15 min or so. We had two guys working top water plugs and the only thing artificial I had rigged up was a Ben Parker spoon… chunked it in the middle of the school and made a couple of turns of the handle and fish on. Ended up being a nice keeper. All action was midlake

interesting, so they were schooling at top mid day?

What’s the best thing to use when they are schooled up like that?

Generally spoons. Cast a lot no way and are small. Most fun are topwater plugs.

I like to use bucktails and flukes

Spoon and I went out for a couple of hours Saturday morning. The previous Saturday was really good for my wife who won the MSC Ladies Tournament for the 2nd year in a row. That day, we boated 12 5-7 pound keepers primarily drifting 50 foot down rods. However, this past Saturday, Spoon and I only had 2 decent keepers and went through most of 4 dozen bait on short fish and short strikes. The October explosion of small fish is on!

So 50’ but where else do I target. Humps, drop offs, ledges? Drift dead bait?

We fished 40-60 ft of water. All fish came of down rods fished anywhere from 30ft too two cranks off the bottom. Live herring was the ticket, they wouldn’t hit a dead bait Saturday.

How deep are the perch now???

Perch were around 20 to 25 feet for me the past two Saturdays.
