Left the dock @ O’dark and frosty thirty on fri. AM. Ran 80 miles south for the blackfin bite. We were fishing a new to me area and had no #‘s to go on. Rolled up to the ledge and spotted a boat where we had planned to stop, called the cap’t to see what’s up. A few blackfin in the box he said so lines in. Many albies later and 20 or so marks on sweet looking bottom, we couldn’t take anymore. Lines in and lead on. Spent the rest of the day dropping in 160- 180’. The wind and current changed about every 15 minutes and never looked good for setting the hook. We bumped around with moderate success and ran in at 40mph.
Totals:
-3 limits of b-liners(up to 4#)more than that caught
-3 limits of Pinkies
-5 groupa
-3 ARS (25# lost 10’ under the boat)
-many more random bottom dwellers
-lost a Hoo after it picked up a bait on the drop(cut the mono about 20’ from the boat, so yes we saw it)
100 gallons of juice
12 hours of life
5 pieces of cold pizza
3 diet pepsi
2 packs of chew
And one “What is that funny cigarette?” for the guy in the beanbag
Pretty good day for a troll/bottom trip where I’ve never been. Would have liked to stick a little bigger fish in the box though. But that is what next weekend is for.
Busy on the controls all day, so no pics. Back at the dock late and dark so not even a box full of fish shot. Like to get you on the boat one of these trips. Let me know if your game.
That sounds like a fantastic day out there. Great Report. When you say many albies, are you talking about longfin albacore? Glad to hear you getting out there and fillin the box.
Don’t think the real albies(longfin) are down here. Could be wrong. Get em’ all the time in the canyons up yonder, right in w/ the yella’s, so they could be here.
