The Drop has Begun

Drop, meaning water temps, of course.

let’s pray for a steady drop for the sake of the trout.

10% of the people catch 90% of the fish.

Always! But I’m hopeful that the water has remained warm this late. The offshore water will keep the temps moderated for a while

Let’s hope it’s a mild drop and not all of a sudden. This is the time I enjoy Trout fishing so lets hope for this continued weather. But who can (accurately) predict mother nature?

How much of this drop ya think was caused by the hugh amount of
cold fresh water coming down from upstate??? Are blue cats all that
common at 526 bridge ???

Good question gail wins. I fished the upper ashley last week and caught only 2 freshwater fish: LM and Cat. Must be too fresh for even reds which you know is odd. The floods cooled the upper ashley a LOT. Last week it was lower 60s when the cooper was near 70. IMO this is limited to the Ashley though, as the surface temps in the wando are still high, and the cooper is also warm.

last Fri I had 69* in the harbor…water felt very nice on my feet…

Water still 67-69 here which is VERY abnormal for mid-November. It just means a prolonged Fall fishing season!

Yes its been great so far. Last Saturday with the cold N winds we were freezing, but when we would catch a fish we would warm our hands on the fish  Not joking the water was much warmer than the air.

I fished yesterday. Wind was brutal. Water was 65. 5 trout, 1 red and a few trash fish.

Gail wins, I fish the Ashley regularly with good success and ever since the hurricane and the release of that fresh water, the fishing there has been terrible. The more salt in the water (closer to the harbor) the more luck I’ve had, caught 16 my last trip out last week and none were pulled from the Ashley other than catfish :frowning:

I can easily agree with temp changes affecting the fishing on Ashley,
I fished the MAD event Sat in the FREEZE, most boats headed to harbor
of other spots further down river and they had better results than we
that stayed up river. The only fish on my boat was a 3-4lb"Blue Cat"
and one 34" red , along with about 8 medium ,18-24" tip to tip
sting rays. Should have gone down river!!!:frowning_face::frowning_face:

Ya the Ashley got it bad in the flood. The parking lot at Jessen landing was about chest deep in water

Thanks for the report.

I am aware of the time and effort it takes.

I really appreciate it and the trout-eye jigs you gave me last year at BP landing.

Op,

When you catch redfish, are they just a by-product of you targeting trout, or do you ever still fish for them intentionally? I know they often hang out in or around the same places, but I’m honestly just happy to catch either! What are the main differences in targeting one versus the other? As usual, thanks in advance.
