Let me start by saying what a great day to be fishing. Fished today with Tombo, his father, and the mermaid. After a group effort, we decided where to head to try and locate some fish. Shortly after putting the lines in, the man in the blue suit shows up. Piles onto the left rigger and proceeds to haul ass in the opposite direction. By the time lines are cleared and we are backing down, there are maybe 2 layes of line wraps left on the spool. The chase is on. Fifteen minutes later he chaffed through the line. What a sight to see.
Lines back in the water, next fish is a nice sail. Got some great pics and then watched him swim off. I forgot to mention, it is Mermaid’s first offshore trip, and at this point she has already fought a blue marlin for 15 minutes and caught her first sailfish…needless to say, I cannot disclose her identity as she is part of the crew from now onward.
Lines back in the water. After blowing the fish whistle, yet another blue man comes up. This one made the first one look small. Estimated around 500lbs. Only fight this one for two minutes before he spit the slightly bent hook.
Lines back in the water. Small billfish comes up and plays with the short rigger before dissapearing. Wasn’t meant to be. By now I’m wondering whats next. About this time, the dredge gets nailed and the cable breaks. I knew this was a bad omen. Put a nice dolpin in the box and decided to call it a day. An epic one at that. Many people wait their whole lives to see some of the close marlin bites that we got to experience. It really makes it all worth it. Congrats to mermaid on her first bill (or 3). Ready to do it again soon.
Left the dock at 8am and back by 5pm.
