I don’t see the problem unless crackheads can figure out how to steal and then use the printer. At a half million dollars or more, it ain’t a big problem.

It’s very affordable for someone wanting to produce product on the DL. Give it a year and the blueprints to every major manufacturer will be up for purchase on the web…

I say it is a fantastic thing. Even for the sake of argument, the bad guys start making guns left and right. There will be no way for the government to take all the guns now. Plus they are not really lacking guns now. If anything, this insures that the American citizen will always have access to a gun. Any bad that comes from this will be far outweighed by the good.
Umm, you gonna eat that?
Thousands have died to save my freedom. Only one has died to save my soul!
Then they will just go after the ammo. Dry up the powder supply and a gun in 10 years is useless.

If you have properly made cartridges on hand, making a “zip” gun was always an option. Making a “real” gun with CDC or 3D Printing will still take significant skills in manufacturing.
Now, making primers and cartridge casings? Making good smokeless powder?
Those are the real skills, I think.

But can they do this in SPACE?

I don’t think the cost benefit is there for criminals to print guns when they can just buy cheap ones off the street in foreign countries. Unless it comes to the point when you can print a minigun, I wouldn’t bee too worried
