Fished the 4th annual The Point Inshore Tournament from Rockville yesterday. The Point is a local women’s org that does a LOT for local women each year, and my family takes part in a lot of their activities, so we usually fish this one. 97 anglers this year was a good turnout.
Spent Friday evening gathering bait. Fiddlers, mud minnows, shrimp (few), mullet, menhaden were all plentiful. Bait motel on the dock made this week worked well for us…thank goodness.
Left with the rush of boats through the N. Edisto to a completely flat ocean…had to make the decision to stay inshore and fish instead of heading out on that pond…was a tough decision but we stayed inshore.
First stop was the nearshore reef to try a big slot redfish, but only managed a few NICE weakfish and some BSB. Headed back to the dock in Rockville to drop the Contender off and pick up the war eagle for some sheepshead fishing.
Picked up a few nice ones, nothing over 3 pounds though, so we iced them for dinner and headed to the redfish/flounder holes.
Managed to pick up 4 NICE slot reds right away, biggest @ 20", but only 2.5 pounds, so we headed to flounder spot. Picked up 2 quickly, both about 10", and then nothing for a while so we moved on to the Leadenwah.

Another (**() sturgeon jumps just feet off of our starboard gunnel, scared the SHIZ out of us AGAIN, he landed in our wake 5’ behind the boat - that should tell you how close he was. He was EVERY BIT of 6’ long…been out here my entire life, made that run from Bohicket to Leadenwah 2000 times in my life probably and have NEVER seen one out there…crazy.
Quickly managed a couple more slot reds, but could not find a trout to save our lives! Not one trout hit the deck all day, but we di
