My neighbor, Lee, and I hit the Stono today (Sunday). We headed towards Kiawah and the Stono inlet. Waited for the tide to be just right so that there would be enough water for us to get to the ‘spot’, about 90 minutes after low tide. We hung out for around 3 hours and were busy the whole time catching, releasing, re-baiting, re-rigging and repeating!! I’ve never had a day like this before. No matter what we put on the end of the hood, the reds took it, cut mullet on the bottom or under a float, mud minnows, shrimp (dead or alive), grubs, peanut butter and jelly, they wanted it. We must have landed over 30 red fish, 14-15 inches with two big boys thrown in for good measure; 27 and 28. Also landed two 18 in trout. GREAT day on the water. October fishing in Charleston!

If you don’t mind me asking, did you catch your mud minnows or buy them? I tried using a minnow trap with hotdogs, but with no takers! I’m thinking I was just in a spot without them so it didn’t matter what my minnow bait was. Who doesn’t like hotdogs!?!?

I didn’t have any luck when I tried hot dogs. Try some dry cat food. That’s what worked for me.

Minnows were purchased from Haddrells, I asked for their top of the line, premium, red-fish catching minnows! The shrimp were caught by us. Two throws of the net and we had plenty.
or partially open a can of sardines and put in it. the bery best to me is a split blue crab…so next time you catch a legal size one on your line…pop it in the freezer…psstt…reds like them too!
