Took the in-laws to Beaufort for a weekend of easy time on the beach with the Grand kids and wife. (Got to do these ever so often to keep the peace. ) Threw a few rods in the truck cause you never know when the opportunity may present itself.
Heard reports of a strong bonnethead and stingray bite. Typically something I donât target but figured the Pa-in-law would enjoy a good battle.
Got up Saturday morning after sleeping in till 10. Pushed off with a cooler of beverages, picnic lunch, kids toys, 1 rod, and a cast net at 12:22. Made the run to the secret shell/swimming hole island and staked our claim. The wife, daughter, and Father-in-law ventured forth to bag some nice sand dollars. Myself and my fishing buddy remained to watch the boat and chum the waters a bit by slashing around. He put the secret color to draw them in close
Little guy wanted to push deep but I kept him shallow. I grabbed the cast net to catch him some bait for the 1 rod spread. Caught some finger sized mullet that he played with and used in the splashing fish attracting technique he has patented.
Made a few more casts and caught a 8 or so incher. This would have to do. Placed a circle hook in his nose and casted the 5 foot trolling rod maybe 10 feet behind the boat into the waste deep water.
The little guy stayed true and kept splashing, tossing sand, and talking to the boat and fish. Looks like child play but I am telling you it is an art of his.
Rest of the family shows up to aid in the splashing, ate some lunch tossed the left over bread and sandwich meat into the spread. Another hour passed. Lucky beverages were being consumed.
Then it happened, kids swimming, the father-in-law and I standing next to the boat, ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!! Did someone bump the line??? ZZZZZ!! ZZZZZ! ZZZZZZ!!! I grabbed the rod and using some of my sailfish circle hook fish
Kind of surprised it took you as long as it did to figure out where I was.
Thanks Ed, I need to enjoy these days. I will become a total idiot to they in about 10 years or so. I remember when I thought my parents were dumb. Funny how you go full circle on that. Having your own kids seems to humble one a bit.
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!
That looks like a great day to me. Being able to spend time with family esspecially the kids and catch a nice fish is great.
Isnât it something how kids can see that you just caught a big shark from where they were swimming and they just say " can we go back swimming yet ". It terrifies us as parents and they are hardly phased by it. Go figure.
Also, S4G, your Pa-in-law looks alot like a football coach I had in highschool at CHS in Summerton.

Bull, lemon, hamma, GW, whatâs the difference. It was an epic battle of man vs. beast with a 5â 30lb trolling set-up from the beach. Beach goerâs would have been vacating the beach and heading for the hills around here. No apparent assistance from a belt either, groin and belly pumpinâ only for the old man.
Good times S4G. That little fellerâs going to be driving the boat before too much longer.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldnât go so far as to call a dog filthy but theyâre definitely dirty. But, a dogâs got personality. Personality goes a long way.
