The bite seemed a little slow today, but we managed well on a few firedrills. First bite was a frisky blackfin that hit the first and only bait in the water at that point. Then we get our first 3 fish knockdown. Up come 3 bronze fin tunas, “aka donkeyfin tunas” but we let them go. Pick up another slinger and a pretty nice gaffer. Then we pick up and run and mark a ball of bait while running. I pull it back on scattered weed and in about 20 minutes we see a school of gaffer dolphin jumping and closing in fast on the spread. They hit most of what we had out and then I got superhero on the gaff. I just closed my eyes and used the force and was slinging them over the rail one by one as they came to the boat. I think we got 5 of them, pulled off one and broke the leader with too much pressure 10 feet from the boat. We pick up and run further to the south and meet the fleet that has found some decent little rips. We pick up a few more dolphin and then get our next fire drill of the day. This time it is not the man in the green suit. It’s something much better and there are 5 rods bent over. I decide to get biblical with the gaff again as it was the only way and I am slinging it around like a ninja with a pair of long blades in a circular sweeping motion. Then the wahoo start flying over the rail. They hit the deck one at a time. Some say that I was gaffing so fast that you couldn’t see my arms moving, like the wings of a hummingbird speed I tell you… Anyway, 4 of them make it onto the deck and on ice. The eldoradofish bite is starting to pick up for the fleet, but we are staring at the fishbox wondering how it is going to close… We decide to run inshore and head for bigger wahoo. We get back to the ledge and the bait balls are marking. Then we hear it! z-z-z-z-z-ing!!! We fight it all the way to the boat only to realize it has shape shifted into a large bonita. Clever wahoo to turn itself into a bonita. We get another triple of donkeys and then out of nowhere the tiny man in the blue suit
Wait…wait…wait. First trip I DONT make and you are ON THE GAFF? Im going outside to look for the four horsemen, for surely the apocalypse is upon us…
Nice work.
