Fished on Friday. Ocean was beautiful but the fish bite was a bit to be desired at least I thought. Took a few first timers offshore and ran all over the ocean trying to find some fish for them. At least they got to see about 100 molas jump, a manta ray, and a huge leather back turtle. They got a kick out of the nature scenery. Ended up with 10 dolphin and 1 wahoo. Also saw a free jumping blue marlin. Did a couple of underwater dives and managed 1 grouper and 1 lobster.
But the oddest thing happened. I had a new spearfisherman and gave him the signal to pop a big sheepshead underwater. He makes a nice shot and when scales go everywhere, the fish get in an all out frenzy. Next thing I know something knocks me so hard in the side of the head, it almost knocks my mask off. I soon realized that I was the victim of a full fledged predation attempt when the beast latched onto my ear and tried to rip it off of my head. I grimaced in pain and then turned to witness the fish that was trying to eat me. As I turned my head around, I came face to face with my would be executioner. There he stood, as black as the darkest of nights, with that killer look in his blood red eyes and he stood a solid 2 pounds. I’ve never seen such an angry black sea bass, but I could see by the look in his eyes, that he meant business. He was like a lion and I was like a gazelle. It was only moments before his next attack and I had to protect myself. In the end, there could be only one victor. I can say, not many people have survived a predation event at 80’ and lived to tell about it…
