I know father’s day is tomorrow, but we celebrated today. Have been trying to get my old man on a sail for the past few father’s days. Today was the day. Ended up catching 2 skippies in the morning (that’s pro-term for skipjack tunas), 4 dolphin (3 of which were little), and went 1-4 on the sailfish. First one I hooked was a solid hookup and the line parted. I’m pretty sure that the spool was messed up from guys not level winding a couple of trips ago and chaffing up the line. Oh well, after the line broke the sail still thought he was fighting us and put on a good show anyway. Pops reeled in the only one we caught and it gave him a good fight off the long rigger. Saw a few more free jumpers and spooked 2 that were on the surface getting some sexy time on. Also lost a real nice dolphin earlier in the day that was hot on the teasers and finally got him hooked. He jumpe a couple of times and spit out the silverware. Oh well, did a couple dives on the way back in and got 5 grouper, 1 hogfish, and 14 slipper lobsters. Saw a ton of lionfish and a guitar fish.
Total for the day:
1 for 4 on the sail fish
4 dolphin (3 little ones)
2 skippies
2 gag grouper
3 scamp grouper
1 hogfish
14 slipper lobsters
Good job guys. It is great to finally be able to repay your father for all of the gifts he’s given you. Every time I see my dad asleep on the bean bags it makes me smile.
