Skinee, i was going to wait for more to jump on board when they thought we were on the ropes, but I don’t think I have enough time to wait for them to circle the wagons.
I’m with you. I concede the Sailfish argument. Especially the one with the blood coming out of the gills and the broken bill. Illegal or not…it was there first one.
What’s so confusing, Skinnee wants to know who “you” are referring to as “they”.
“Double Play”
26’ Glacier Bay
Honda 150’s
Actually since it wasn't in the quote blocks, I didn't realize it was a quote from greg. I thought that it was something that you typed. Thus, I was confused and thus is why I asked.
…possible error on my part when placing a second spear into the fish.
Jesus Christ man, the ling was laying on his back in the sand and you say “possible error on my part when placing a second spear”. How in the name of Jacque Custo did you manage that?

Don’t know. I’ve thought of 100 things I could do differently.
Maybe I should’ve just waited him out. See if he’d bleed out on his own.
Maybe I should’ve tried to grab it instead of shooting it again (unlikely, but anything is possible).
Maybe I should shot for it’s gills or belly and not gone for a head shot (i.e. kill shot).
Who knows. But don’t you worry your pretty little head about it. I’ll be replaying the scenario in my head many many more times over the next few weeks.
Lost fish are the exception not the rule in spearing but it does happen to everyone from time to time, and free shafting will result in LESS lost fish since they don’t tear off the spear as often as with line shafting. Fact of the matter is spearfishing is the most conservation minded of all attended gear methods, there is much less loss as compared to hook and line with dead short discards floating away. I do both, and I can personally state that when spearing I kill less fish than when I’m using a rod and reel as a result of the rarity of lost fish and the lack of shorts being cranked up and tossed over to feed the sharks. I have absolutely NO problem with hook and line attended gear by the way, but it’s just a fact that short fish will die whenever you do it, either by embolising from the pressure change, ingesting the hook, or getting bitten in half on the way up.
