The skinnee for 09/08/2013 (Fishing/Diving)

Beautiful ocean yesterday. Did some fishing and diving. Started out bailing some of the biggest pinkies that I have ever seen. They were horses. Got a few decent BSB’s and moved onto another spot. Upon arrival we started bailing fish right away. Then, we had a school of dinner plate size trigger fishing schooling under the boat. We were literally sight fishing for them. You could drop your line 30’ under the boat and watch them attack. It was tough fishing for them with the new circle hook rules, but we still managed to get a wad of them. In my last two trips, I’ve done 6 dives, and seen massive triggers on every spot.

Ended up with 3 nice gags and a couple of hogfish, one of which was 18#. Ran into a school of dolphin (yes, “mahi”) on the way home. Probably 100+ fish in the school. Played with them for a little while, but they weren’t big enough to make it interesting so we moved on. Ocean was alive with bonitas yesterday. Also found 4 huge lobsters, but were covered in eggs, so had to let them pass.

Saw some nice ringtails while diving, but they were just too elusive for me. Oh well, I will get them next time.

How was the vis? Looked dirty about 30 miles from the rocks on the way in from the ledge out of Georgetown.

Maybe 30’

was it a 20’ section of tree and stump with a small triple tail hovering around it? we picked up a few of the larger schoolies and got some cool video…they were fun to play with, but they sure did make a mess of the boat…
it was a beautiful ocean yesterday…

It was about 20', but looked more like a big branch. Didn't see any triple tail on it. Was in 65' of water.

this is the one we ran across…

Crap!!! That’s eerie looking!

That looks exactly like the same drift wood we passed heading out last Thursday. It was in 77 ft of water then. It had what looked to be 100+ dolphin on it and 1 triple tail. Caught a few small Phins and we headed on out.
Is there any chance that the same wood could be in the same area for 5 days?

I think we were a little more shallow than that, but yes, school of small dolphin and 1 triple tail on it…

After seeing your video, I can confirm it was definitely NOT the same tree. There was probably a storm some where on one of the islands hundreds of miles to the south a week ago that blew some wood out to sea.
