Did a couple of dives, but viz was horrendous. On one spot, the viz was complemented with millions of glass minnows swimming in swarms 3 inches from your face. Your vision starts to gain and lose focus to the point where you start getting really dizzy and feeling drunk at 100’. Your eyes eventually totally lose focus and all you see is a blue\green blur of seawater. Ended up aborting mission on that dive. But, before that happened, in the time we were down there, we saw that the red snapper population had already started benefitting from the new SAFMC amendment. On one dive, after I unloaded on a scamp, I looked up only to see about a dozen red snapper that where 15+ pounds starting at me. Of course, before I could get reloaded, they moved off and sent in a pack of 18-20" fish to sniff me out. Viz was so bad yesterday, we spent most of the time fishing. Anyway, it was good to see how many red snapper were on the only two spots that we dove. They must have already heard about the closure and started moving into our waters. Our total:
Diving
1 scamp
2 nice lobsters
2 gags
Fishing
8 red snappers (4 just short and released)
1 red grouper
1 gag
Got rocked up several more times and pulled the hook on some beauties!
thanks for the report skinnee. got a quick laugh but good luck next time and i bet if you go back soon the snapper population will double from the last time. lol tight lines

I don’t know how to pick out stripers and catfish on the sonar yet is all…
Well you had better learn quick. They aren't controlled by the SAFMC, so that will probably be our only choice soon. Time to stock up on chicken livers and stink baits at wally world...
No wreck. Live bottom. The water was decieving. The top 15 feet was pretty clear, but after that the viz dropped off pretty quick. I think a lot was related to the strong outgoing current.
