The skinnee for 4/16/10 (Hoos and Hooters)

We came home at 29 knts all until about the last 6-8 miles, then it was pretty wind blown out of the SW with a tight chop. The boat rode fine, but with the wind and waves coming from the same side, it got a little wet on that side of the boat.

Thanks! We got lucky and found some fish. That's pretty much is a characteristic of this time of year. It can be either feast or famine. I think it will still be that way for a couple more weeks.

Good going guys!!
Can’t wait to get in on the action!!

So where do you put in at?

Real question that I don’t know the answer to…Why not fish Steel if you’re getting cut off so much? OR will you get the same result…I feel that I’m in real trouble if I find the fish once I finally get my shot…Guess 5 boxes of ballyhoo and $1000 in tackle should keep me out there a solid 4 hours…

Also am I missing something or is a Hoo the same as a Hooter…Some guy earlier said no hooters but also said 6 wahoo…

A “hooter” is a nickname for a woman’s breast. There is a restaurant named after it… As you can see from my opening paragraph we not only caught wahoos, but we saw a pair of “hooters” in the AM…

Also, as I mentioned earlier, we got bit off at the other end of the leader. When they bite off your swivel and get teeth on the main line there isn’t a whole lot that you can do about it. However, we might have landed a few more fish if we had been using all wire. In general, I feel that wire is a pain in the ass to work with and has it’s own drawbacks as well (kinking and breaking, etc).

My typical crew has been much more interested in the hooters we saw than the hoos we caught. I have told that story at least 20 times. I guess I need to find some more sophisticated crew members. That or camp out at skinnee’s each night before we go fishing. Could be a good luck charm.

C’mon FB, you really didn’t know what the man was talking about?? If so, you got way much more to worry about than catching hoos…

Im glad someone put the whole story out there,
thanks Bobby. Kinda like catching schoolies under
a tree or big pile of weed.

You're right. It definitely changes the flavor of the wahoo depending on where you catch it. It wasn't as good as that time you caught 11 wahoos in one day.

I’m not knocking your fish, You left a big part of your story out of your original post and subsequent posts.
If anyone else had done that, you and alot of your buddies on CFC
would have called for a lynching, and we would have never heard the end of it.
I hope that I find that net every time I fish, so I can do what you did, good for you.
Have a great next trip.

Charlie, congratulations. You finally just figured out that wahoo are structure oriented fish... What difference does it make if the structure is floating or not? All fish were caught trolling with balleyhoo. How is it really any different from trolling a weedline? Weedline fishing is actually a lot easier!!!

PS And we DID have a great next trip!

Oh yeah, and I think you are confused about the lynching thing. I’ve never “lynched” anyone for leaving out detail. Sometimes people catch 40-60 dolphin. Do they deserve a lynching when they don’t specify “weedline”?
