The skinnee for 4/16/10 (Hoos and Hooters)

I finally got the boat ready and headed out for the inagural trip of 2010 this year. As Scootin’4-Nookie and I were loading up the truck this morning at 2:30AM , Scootin’ yells, “hey look up there”… Sure enough, there was a real nice lady that was kind enough to close her shades topless. She only had panties on… Odds are, they were probably your basic cotton, but then I started wondering maybe they were silky, or maybe a thong, or maybe even something that I had never thought of before… Wait, we are still in the nest, right? Anyway, you could tell the blinds were hard to close because her hooters swayed a bit back and forth as she finally figured it out after about 15 seconds… They were large C’s or standard D’s if I had to put a size on them. Weren’t close enough to get the tape on them though…

Anyway, we could already tell it was going to be a good day, and it ended up being pretty good to us. We probably lost 25-30 wahoos including a 50 lb fish just off the transom. Whenever we would get a good one on, another one would bite the wind on swivel. Sometimes they would get the whole leader. Some times, they were nice enough to leave us 3 inches of leader. Didn’t matter if you had wire or not when they got their teeth on the main line. Anyway, you can believe me that there was a lot of cussing going on. Lost a few screamers and trust me, you really find out how sensitive your feelings are when you lose that many wahoos… Ended up running out of bait at 1PM (started out with 72 baits).

Also had a decent wahoo grab my big lure and actually run past the bow of the boat for a second before he turned 90 degrees, made another run and spit the hook. Pretty cool.

Anyway, to make a long story short, we ended up with:

19 dolphin
11 wahoo
1 blackfin

Anyway, it doesn’t get much better than 'hoos and hooters!

Ocean was real nice.

Wow, it’s definitely time to get out there…What temperature?

I saw and participated in all the above. The best offshore experience in a long time if not ever. From the hooters to the hoos it was AWESOME!

Thanks Skinnee for the invite. I expect similar results next time too.

Come one. I've seen enough boobies in my life to know a pair of D's when I see them!!!

From the ledge out to just under 400 feet. Temps in the upper 60s. I don’t think I ever saw 70. Then again I did not look at the gps/fishfinder much as I spent 3 straight hours retying ballyhoo rigs trying to keep up with the wahoo cut offs.

It was unreal how aggressive they were.

11 wahoo in one day would seem to be a record of some sort in these parts.

I beleive it. I went w some buddies near the end of last april… or maybe it was jan or maybe july… anyways we were swallowed up by vicious wahoos. we prolly had atleast 30-40 cut offs and got spooled 7 times. anyways we had 13 dolphin 6 wahoos(1 wieghed well over 170#s). not quite as good as good aa yalls day tho… and no hooters… but hey… those days happen!

When you miss the fish how do you know for sure what it was?

I am really jealous now. I have wanted to go all week. That’s the difference a week makes. We were in the same waters last saturday and only came up with 1 peanut dolphin. I planned on going today, but the forecast (4-7s)scared me a little. Anyway, congratulations to you all. That’s a heck of a way to start the season. That would be a good name for your boat,“Hooters and Hoos”

Good question. Let me address. Once we found the fish yesterday we never left them. Caught the blackfin then 3 rods go down all 3 screeming, like the reels were going to blow up screeming no jumps just screeming. Had 2 cut offs and boated 1. Re rigged and went back through with similar results. This went on from 7:45 until 1 when we ran out of bait. Other than 1 cuda. Everything else that came to the boat either jumped showing it colors, dolphin, or smoked the reel and came to the box as a wahoo.

I am willing to bet that 95% if not 100% of our cut offs were wahoo.

Toward the end of the bait supply we figured out a few techniques to increase our fish to cutt off ratio. For a while our average as TERRIBLE!

We lost a LOT of tackle yesterday. Need to go run by Atlantic Game and restock on hooks and lehi sqwithces. Also got to call Captain Ed for some of his Full Pull rigs as well.

If the ride in was a bit sporty, then y’all must have been to the north of us.Our ride in was smooth and we fished an edge to the south.I would much rather have a snotty ride in with a box full btw.

Skinnee, I don’t remember you saying the wahoo’s were going to be out of control this year in your prediction…

Man… Two boats goose egg and you guy’s kill it. That’s some nice work.
