Oh, where do I start? Let’s see, we got to the hole with lines in at 6:30 and didn’t get the first knock down until about 8:30 and it was a little cuda. Then we proceed to march all over the GTH until I finally get a little breathing room from the crowd and finally find a spot with several nice marks of bait. Not another boat around us for a mile or two. We work the bait and within 5 minutes get a screamer on. A few minutes later a nice wahoo hits the deck. But of course, before we could get the fish landed, there are at least 10 boats around us and we can’t budge. I try for about an hour to get back to the bait, but it’s like getting to fort knox. I can’t take it any more so I started heading out of the crowd, then we get a double header of blackfin. I’ll let Magnum PI explain the story, but somehow instead of gaffing the fish, he ends up tossing the gaff in the water like it’s some kind of harpoon and he is spear chucking. Gaff sinks immediately and doesn’t wave goodbye. Needless to say, by the time the next gaff get’s ready, the fish spits the hook at us next to the boat. My dad lands the second fish and it’s a big blackie. Going to take it to weigh it for the trident tomorrow. We had a few more bites, but hooks kept coming unglued. Also, the outrigger clips would pop out of the long rigger as soon as we headed anywhere close to up-sea. This was plauging us all day long and was killing our mojo. Tried to tighten the clips down pretty good. Next thing you know we get a real nice bite on the long rigger. The clip is NOT RELEASING and the pole is bent back so far I can almost reach it. The fish is screaming drag and eventually as I am trying to free the clip, SNAP!!! It’s bad enough that the outrigger now looks like a permanent Viagra patient, but we lose the nice fish too. Now, we can’t even run a bait out of the long position on that side. The pole is severely structurally damaged. We leave the hole to get away from the fleet and hook another nice screaming wahoo. Got lucky on it as it w
Welcome to fishing in the internet age. Every body and there brother posting tunas at the hole guess what the whole fleet will be there. I feel your pain Saturday we had the same thing luckily it was sporty so most of the weekend warriors stayed in bed. But we had our long riggers cut twice by people coming in so close while we were fighting fish.
I couldnt get turned back around on them because some maniac in a 23ft single engine Sea Hunt was my shadow for about two hours. Never said a word over the radio, I understand sharing info to help people out but this is getting out of control.
Here is a bit of information to all you new people out there trolling. While tuna fishing most boats have a baits set way way way back so stay out from behind them. I was new once so I aint mad at ya just learn, please. Worst part is left the radio on scan and heard boat names I read about on hear all the time.
Im sure this will get a rise out of the crowd. There is more bottom structure out there than the Georgetown Hole that holds tuna. Friend caught 15 yesterday a long way from the Hole.
Skinny sorry about your luck lost a big wahoo Saturday too.
Sorry to hear about your rigger J. I was kinda surprised we had to wave 2 smaller cc’s off the spread on a monday. Especially after hearing the one boat called out on 65 by someone else.
what is it with your boat and gaffs? I remember when we fed a BIG shark a gaff. Good job on the fish! I will tell Joey the difference between a gaff and a HARPOON…

Although I’ve never experienced a true charlie foxtrot at the hole, we usually fish elsewhere on the weekend. We’ll go north of there or more offshore. We catch plenty of tunas elsewhere.
I cant believe you had the energy to post up a report after a 19.5 hour day on the water, J!!! I’m beat.
Yeah, we had our share of mishaps and misses, but you know what, we got some nice fish IN THE BOAT. I think we need to get Joey a floating treble hook gaff. Anyway, like I said, bright side was what we put in the boat was NICE and considering all the chatter on the radio about some not getting anything, I feel good.
Time for more coffee!!!

Hope you get the rigger back into shape.

I decided to become a Daredevil and climb out to fix it, but then I remembered those shark infested waters and that if I fell in, there'd be no Surviving Christmas and Id be Gone Baby, Gone. Can you tell I am sleep deprived....

I’m blaming the gaff incident on a worn out grip. Skinnee definitely wears out his gaffs. No worries though, Ive got you a custom “Stick- Ums” grip gaff coming. I hope I redeemed myself a little on the tounge- hooked 'hoo.
I still think that was the same grander Mola we jumped off last week that crushed the long rigger and mangled the pole…We’ll get him soon enough.

Yea you were talking up that stick-ums gaff last trip.
Pro-tip: If you have a product you really like and want to share, bring it along and show it off as being better than the original. Do not throw the original in the water therefore creating a demand for a new one. Well… I guess both with work. Next time throw some of those reels in, Skinneej needs some bling, bling on that boat.

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>SKINNEE-GRIPS… I like it… How are we coming on the new line of Skinnee-baits in the factory? I know that the Skinee-witches and the Skinnee-jets are going to be local tuna favorites.
