The skinnee for 5-01-2008 (Double Header Sails)

Just a quick lesson from the Fishing Bible. Turn your pages to the book of Skinnee-viticus, Chapter 5, verse 1.

King James Version:

“As the demons cursed the fleet at the George Town Hole, Skinnee raised his arms to the heavens and asked the Lord to bless him with fish. The Lord smiled upon the Banshee and sent the arch angel Gabriel to cast the demons out of their trolling spread. In the 7th hour, the Lord said, “Let there be fish” and there was…”

Living Version:

Went up to the hole today with a few other boats. Got a few bites in the morning and missed a few. Had a double on nice sized blackfins. Landed one and had another break off the mainline right next to the boat. Marked a few schools of fish here and there and picked at them a little. Then, get a double knock down and one fish hooked up. I see a jump out of the corner of my eye and assume dolphin… I started dropping back the other line and feel a fish pick it up. I stick him and hand the rod off. Minutes later, I hear the crew screaming “SAILFISH” and we have one up to the boat, get some nice pictures, remove the hook and shove him off. About that time a second sail comes up on the other side of the boat lit up like a neon sign. Very pretty. Take a couple pics of him as well and shove him back into the deep. About 30 minutes later, we have a 3rd sail switch from flat line to flat line, but can’t get a hook in him. Had several more tuna doubles and win a couple and lose a couple. Most of our action was before lunch time, but it kept us pretty busy before lunch. Then we pulled out a special, top-secret Z-MAN creation and juice up the flat line. 20 minutes later a dolphin comes in hard on it and misses it. I drop back to him and pull the hook again. Try again, nope. Third time is a charm and the crew cheers in amazement as I stick the hook deep in his face.

Total for the day:

2 sailfish (missed #3)
7 blackfin (probably lost 4-5 more)
1 dolphin

Not a bad day. Sounded pretty slow fo

Good job,Skinnee. We went south of the 226,found a 1.5deg break, and spanked the dolphin.Had a 1nm weedline to ourselves and left there with gaffers all around the boat.We were TIRED.Didn’t hear any chatter RE tuna down that way.I am glad you caught some.We are going again Sat.:sunglasses:

Nice work, there, Skinnee one. We did OK (got some fat wahoo) after we left y’all, but I wish we had stayed and waited it out. You were smart to hang in there. Did the boats finally clear out so the tuna came back up? I just couldn’t stand hearing anymore on the radio about no one catching any, so we boogied south a little piece. I’d rather have the red meat. Congrats on the double sail.

BTW, I wasn’t paying close attention, because I was tired and busy trying to get done and get home, but I overheard some guys talking, and they said that one boat caught 4 blue marlin, and another got 3 south today–along with a bunch of very stout dolphin.

Judging by the radio talk it sounds like you guys came up with a pretty good game plan too. Nothing wrong with a triple of fat wahoos. We were really looking to sweeten the box with one, but couldn't find one ourselves. We did see the tunas come up just a tad when the boats cleared out. Still wasn't like it was last Saturday though.

Thats an awsome day–nice work. It looks like its time…

George Carlin said it best, ‘Think of how stupid the average person is, and then realize that half of them are stupider than that’’.

Nice job skinnee…

Nice catch! Good pics!

Looks like the local boys did pretty good. What about the crew of “Pros” figured they would have a post up by now. Must still be cleaning fish or something…

Gotcha,
Congrats on the day! I can confirm the four Blues. A good friends boss was out today and fought seven blues, boated and released four.

I saw this before you deleted it. Post just the link instead of the IMG file. I wanted to see it but my computer crapped out.

“stab me in the throat please”

Thats a great day by any standards! Congrats on the sails.

Last week we were down south and had on sail come in and hit three lines and spit them all out and manage to sew the lines together. It was quite impressive. But not like catching two!

Can’t wait to get out again.

Life is like a piece of s#$%…no matter if it sinks or floats…you always get flushed in the end

Nice work Skinee.

Are you going to smoke or fry the Sail?

It was a lot of fun talking with you guys out there skinnee. Glad you guys stayed on them and got a few more to eat. It was hectic out there playing dodge the sporty, which is why we took off after a few hours without a bite. I’m sure Sells was biting at the bit to drop some bait deep, but it paid off for you guys. Congrats on a great day. The double sail is great news for May 1st. It’s going to be a good season.
