Finally got the wetsuit back on and in the water. Man it felt good despite the severe leak in my mask on the first dive that had my mask half full of water the whole time! Anyway, while diving we managed to bag 6 spiney lobsters (biggest were 9# and 10#), 1 slipper lobster, 2 gag grouper, 1 15# hogfish. Also, while we were trying to get a lobster in the bag, we were paid a visit by the man in the grey suit. A nice 8’ sand tiger came up from my back and did a tight loop around us to get a whiff of the grouper that was attached to my hip. It was an awesome sight, but thank God he didn’t decide to taste my fish as it was right up against my internal organs.
Anyway, after diving, we snuck out for an afternoon troll and found a pretty steady dolphin bite. We caught 25 of them, but we did release several. Not too bad for only 4 hours of trolling. Though it was a refreshing treat to see sellsfish off of his “A-game”. Some how he was able to miss this big old dolphin and like a ninja put the gaff point right on the leader only to cut it off. Then, just minutes later, he missed a fish a few times with the gaff only to finally lose that one. Finally, we just handed him a release knife to make his job easier!
Fun day on the water and we had a good time.
Anyway, total for the day:
6 spiney lobsters
1 slipper lobster
2 gag grouper
1 nice hogfish
25 dolphin
Shoot, almost forgot to mention… The first dolphin came on a jig in 90’ of water by sellsfish. While we were getting suited up to dive a pair of mauiwowie-mahi-dolphinfish-moimois came swimming up to the boat and he got a slinger on the jig. So there you have it mosquito fleet. Dolphin in 90’. The intel that you have been waiting to hear!
