Weather was questionable last night so we called an audible and did some bottom fishing and spearchucking. One of the 5 decided to sleep in… <cough><cough>sellsfish<cough><cough> but 4 of us made it out. Ocean ended up being beautiful all day long. My dive buddy got tired and I was left with none. Next thing you know, MCMarine felt the power of the Moncks Corner in his blood. Minutes later, we were in 90’. He was decked out with a pair of shorts and a t-shirt as his wetsuit and a pair of sneakers stuffed into fins that were too small. It was hard core though, especially in 69 degree water, and I think that he will be running up the credit card next week to get him some toys. Please do not tell his fiancee.
Anyway, ended up the day with:
1 real nice ARS caught by Phin
8 nice gag grouper (several measured 32-34")
Those big brown largemouth bass are gonna taste great on the grill.
Good deal Skinnee. Have fun in Cabo and if you decide to eat off site, you must go to El Faro Viejo / the trailer park restaurant. You will not be dissapointed.
randd, you don’t know what you will be getting into. I lost a contact in my mask at 100’ today while struggling with the first grouper. After the fight was over, I couldn’t focus at all and had a real hard time seeing my guages on the way up. Couldn’t even clear the mask because of the contact still in the mask. Didn’t want to lose it. On my way up, I said a little prayer that the “man in the grey and white suit with the 2 black buttons” wouldn’t show up while I was visually impaired.

■■■■, thats rough. But doesnt deter me. I already got the kitchen pass to do this. Just want to talk to you more about it and make sure it wont be like some of my other hobbies…where expensive toys just sit and gather dust from non-use…ring me!
Diving is a blast. Not terribly expensive. I guess that is realitive at this point, but you will need a good regulator and computer to start then pretty much everything else is how serious you want to get.
Not to down play skinneej’s contact story but talk to FLOORED or Goldfinch if you want some SCARY dive stories. I am sure Charlestiondiving Rob has a few as well. Let’s just say your spot on the food chain falls drastically when you inter the water in 100 plus feet.
Diving is all about experience and the ability to keep your cool when, not if, when something goes wrong. It is much like sky diving. Tons of fun but little room for error.

Sounds like you would not go home without your supper. Good show. My brother was a navy diver for years- Master diver- I on the hand saw JAWS so me going in the water is out of the question. I will be like some of the old captians and go down with the ship. But all jokes aside I bet it is beatiful down there on certain days. To bad Im a feather covered drumstick. Did you get any pictures of your fish? Keep the good reports comming.
Thanks for the trip Skinnee! The fishing was great and I am glad I was able to get back in the water. That was my first dive since Nov. of 2006. I am ready to roll now.
I have seen too many large predatory animals in the water out there to feel excited about going into their realm and killing stuff. I would like to eventually be certified so I could see everything the way you can down there. One of their dives sounded awesome, and they had great viz and a lot of life to see on the bottom. It is not always that way from what I understand, so I’m glad they had such a great day.
I had an awesome time, and I enjoyed it thoroughly SkinneeJ.
We did not rod and reel fish very much. I know I like to fish too hard in some people’s opinion though… . We spent about an hour or two rod and reeling I believe.
It is hard to really want to all that much when such experienced spearfishers are on board. When they are on the bottom, you can’t anchor up and really fish right for gags because we try to be ready to get to anybody or anything that comes up a.s.a.p.
SkinneeJ anchored us up on two or three spots to fish I think. Likewise, everybody but me made two or three dives so on a short day, we got a lot done equally between fishing and diving.
The bigger gags came from the dives, and the ARS and other gags came from the rod and reels.
