Well, I finally get to go trolling this year after being pretty sure that I was the only one in SC that hadn’t gotten to go yet. Went down south in search of the elusive maui-maui with sailfish23 on board and a few other non-CF.commers. Ended up with 11 green fish before 10:30 and then the bite seemed to disappear. Despite what the buoy said, it was pretty windy down to the south, offshore. One of those days where the lines blow across the spread. Much nicer one we got back inshore.
Attempted to do some diving on the way in. Got down to 100’ to realize that my regulator was not properly working. Felt like I was breathing through a drinking straw. The harder I breathed, the more water leaked in and sprayed into my throat. I tried to tough it out for 15 minutes and killed a hog fish, but never really could catch my breath. So, we surfaced and did not do a 2nd dive.
Oh well, not the epic trip that we had planned for, but we had a good time.
We went south yesterday too, and it was not 2’ at 9 secs. for us either. Went 5 for 6 on mahi…all gaffers. It was sloppy enough we did not bottom fish as planned.
The weather forecast was correct in some respects…the wind did make an abrupt change in the morning right on schedule and it did lay in the afternoon, as called for.

I think it was windier offshore... Once we got back into 100' it wasn't bad at all. White caps out past the ledge. That north wind offshore was a little chilly for May!
We experienced the same thing. Went south towards the 226, had a triple header before we got the entire spread out then it was slow the rest of the day. Trolled deep, then came back inshore. Ended up with 5 in the box. No weeds and bait was scattered.
Wind out of the NE was much more than predicted, 3+ with white caps made for bumpy trolling. Laid down once we got into about 200 feet and then smoothed out nicely with a run in at 40 mph.
