Made it out on Saturday. It was pretty darn stormy out there for a bit. Made our way to the first spot on the game plan and we got pushed off by storms almost instantly. Had to go to a plan B. Thunder and lightening stood between me and my playbook, so the day was starting out pretty slow. Then, finally around 2 pm or so, the sky seemed to lighten up a bit. Finally got to run to where we wanted and put some meat on the boat. There were only 4 of us, so we could only keep 4 snappahs, but we actually got 2 on the spear and 4 on rod and reel. My dad caught 2 on rod and reel after wading through a half a dozen sharks or so. He even doubled on remoras one time. Not sure what the limit is on remoras, but I am pretty sure we caught it.
Good to have Black Bart again on the boat. Class act all around. Bart almost hooked the daymaker. His rod was bent over a bit, but the fight just didn’t seem like it could have been that big of a fish. I instantly made the call, “Black Sea Bass”… As he was finessing the fish up to the boat, I suddenly realized how wrong I was when a 6 foot tiger shark popped up with Black Bart’s bait in his mouth. Circle hook never made it into the shark. He was just holding on to the bait and enjoyed the ride up to the boat. He swam under the boat, out to the side, made a turn and spit the bait out. Very exciting, but humbling at the same time considered we had just dove the same exact spot about 10 minutes before that.
