I recently replaced an underwater thru hull that drains the fish boxes on the bow of the boat. After getting the install completed, I “attempted” to reattach the hose to the fitting. It seems as if the hose is about 3 inches short to fit correctly to the new fitting. I pulled the hose to see if there was any slack, but it doesn’t move. Is it advisable to use a coupling and extra hose to make it work, or should I replace it entirely with a new hose that is of the correct length?? I am not sure how to access the other end, so that could be another issue also.
Boat is a 2003 Key West 225cc. Thanks in advance.
If you don’t have a Long Armed Midget with a small head I’d put in the splice and be done with it:smiley:You did say that it was an Easy job:smiley:
I’d go ahead and splice it, but double up the hose clamps w/ 2 on each side of the splice. That redundancy will give you real peace of mind.
that’s what I was hoping to hear. I must admit, the visual image of a small headed long armed midget made me smile on a Monday. Well played. Thanks for the direction.

instead of splicing and adding hose, how about adding a valve.
it will give you the length you need, plus the ability to turn it off if something happens
Chris, the valve thought is interesting. Given that the thru hull has a barbed end, what type of valve would work?

can you replace teh thruhull with a threaded fitting?
if not, a barb on the valve with a 2" piece of hose to connect them
The thru hull “could” be replaced, but I installed it with the intention of not having to do that again. Given how stiff the sanitation type hose is, what are you thoughts about using a piece of something like a radiator hose to make the connection??
