Skineee man , what would you do to fix this if it were in your power . Maybe have a data base that people had to log their catch every day so when the limits were meet it would be shut down (even if the fish were sold or kept for personal use)
I hope you were safe during the storm .

This is one of my favorite quotes from the second link you posted.
I don’t think this guy realizes what a communist is. He needs to look in the mirror. He is playing on the assumption that it’s ok for the government to take ownership of a natural resource and sell it to the chosen few. PURE COMMUNISM.

I would turn fisheries management back over to the states.
I agree! the fishing management in Florida should have no effect on the laws in Ga, SC or NC. BUT the SAFMC has become so corrupt on many different levels with supporting the agendas of the various enviro groups, commercial fishermen, the food and hospitality groups- and on and on. The states could do a much better job than our present system.
I know that the argument will be that some of these species are “migratory”, but it’s pretty easy for these states to form a “coalition” and work together without involving the bloated federal government. In the end, this is the only course of action that will save our fisheries.
I have seen this from all 3 sides of the fence, Rec- Commercial - seafood dealer. There are numbers on commercial and dealers - but none on rec fishers. Commercial bottom fishing goes on 7/24 rain shine clear or storm. . The number’s are slanted to benefit the commercial industry, and the council makes no effort to seek rec catch numbers because they don’t want them. I suspect the council has been corrupted by the enviro groups , commercial interests, seafood dealers, and the food service lobby. Rec fishers want to catch some fish for supper and a few to freeze, but remember - the industrial fishing goes on every day. In my company, I travel extensively. Last week in Harrisonburg VA I had fresh gag grouper in a nice eatery. I spoke to the chef, and he was kind enough to show me his fish. mostly southern reef fish from the GOM and east coast. One box was from Murrells. Catch shares will do 2 things for the fishing industry. it will raise market prices. it will make a few very wealthy!
