The Ville 9-4-09

Met TimBuck2, Nikonjedi, and Papa Spumoni at o dark thirty for some fish stalkin at the 'ville. Well actually met TB2 at o dark thirty and the other t20 were only a tad late.

To start the day off some jack hole dumped a deer carcass RINGHT ON THE LANDING:imp:. If I knew who it was I’d leave them a nice present by their mailbox.:imp::imp:

Anyway, we throw the cast net a few times and get the usual suspects of a few quality shrimp, some smaller shrimp, cigar sized mullet, and unfortunately no crabs this time. Set out the minnow trap for 15 minutes, but not a single taker this time.

First light and off we go to the flat, the water is coming in pretty quickly. Papa Spumoni and nikonjedi are waving the buggy whips, I’m trying to decide brtween bait and fly when TB2 yells in his characteristic fashion “DISH ON!!!”. Nice fish in Tim’s Ultimate.

I set up and see a few pushes, but no tails in the air. Fish for a few minutes and just getting ready to push down the flat when my rod nearly leaps out of the Manta Ray. “WOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOO - FISH ON!!!” Nice 24 1/2 inch red.

Now there are a few curse coming from PS and NJ, TB2 and I push down the flat a little farther looking for another pocket of water thas fishable. We’re both standing paddleing and TB2 finds a nice spot, PS deced to follow along to a more productive area, so he’s 30 yards or so behind me when I spot a nice school of BIG reds and I try to stop my yak before I spook 'em. Remember, I’m standing in a Native Manta Ray… I reach forward, plant the paddle blade tryingto stop and Whoosh, It just slides out from under me and I’m flat on my azz in 18 inches of water and to add insult to injury, goodbye big ole school of reds.:face_with_head_bandage::face_with_head_bandage: So I earned my tirtle sticker as the hgihlight of the day.

I recovered the floating yard sale and pushed on down the flat. To be rewarded with tails in the air… finally. 4 or 5 decent fish cruising up and down the flat like a crew of John Deere tractors flowing the north forty.

I grabbed a

Sounds like a great day. I need to catch a red fish again sometime soon but I normally fish close to where I live and downtown isn’t very red.

Switching to lead-free tackle.

We didn’t get anything after you left TooBusy… We went out on the creek and tried a few places and even dropping half a crab out NOTHING… We landed the boats on the island right as you trun out to the sound, the one thats under water at high tide, and threw some flies at the trout and nabbed about 40 mullet in the cast net but nothing on the rods… We left about 4PM for an incredible 10 hours at the ville… Holy crap i don;t think I can do that again anytime soon… we were both exhausted at the end of the day…

That was a great day on the water! Weather was nice, not too much wind. Everyone got at least 1 fish in the boat, finally (Ken, I’m talking to you here) I think I ended with 4 spot tails and a blacktip, with Austin’s help, 1 fish spit the hook, and three break offs. Things slowed down dramatically after running out of the mornings catch of shrimp.
