Watching the financial new these days brings my mind to that famous chapter in “Alice Through the Looking Glass”
-we have one tax cheat, Gietner, telling another tax cheat, Wrangel, that treasury is going to make other tax cheats pay up,
-Bernake pretends to be pissed at AIG but refuses to give any hint of who these “counter parties” are. Common sense tells us he knows who they are; but he won’t talk because he knows that a revelation that the taxpayers, thru AIG, are paying foreign banks, Goldman, Morgan, hedge funds etc. $1.00 for toxic securities worth, maybe, $.20 might be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. (We have been kept in the dark as to the exact nature of the quarantys that AIG issued; my guess is that they were for payment and that our money is flowing thru AIG to these mysterious counter parties. Why else would AIG suddenly need all this extra cash? Bernake is also silent on the total amount AIG may need-you can bet he knows and it’s a lot more.)
-Bammer’s transparent government becomes more opaque with every passing day,
-more hypocrisy? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/04/business/04penny.html?_r=1&hp Maybe greed is good after all!,
-now we know what it feels like to be an oyster:dizzy_face:
