Does the Thermacell really work as good as they say on the South Carolina State Bird? I see where there is an extended life insert available that lasts as long as one fuel cell instead of the three insert refill.

It works but takes a few minutes to do it’s thing. I’m still not certain deer don’t smell it though.
Yes, they do work. In a small area.

X2. But, the skeeters are still gonna gnaw on you in and out the woods. I even tried running two of them going in the woods…nope, the skeeters eat me up. Once you get still, it runs them all off. You might get an occasional crazy skeeter, but it works. It does even better in an enclosed space like a blind or a tower box stand.

It’s worth $500 to me. They work, but they have to warm up enough to put out the chemical that deters mosquitoes. Usually five minutes. They are NOT for use while on the move.
Thermacells work but will get you busted if you arent careful.
They work great
Tall Sail Marine
Must have at my place. I think it’s pretty evident that normal spray smells much worse and you cant go out there with nothing very often.
First, Most, Biggest
The guy who invented it deserves the noble prize. I’d rather forget my rifle than my thermocell. Aka skitter deleter.
I swear by them. Wouldn’t go in the woods without one. Sometimes I wonder if the deer smell the vapors, but then again I’ve had a deer right under me and no spooked at all. Who knows…
“Leave the gun. Take the cannoli.”
Won’t hunt without one. I carry one in my pack in case I need it ALL season long…
IF the Deer smell it…they can smell you too so you’re busted either way…I’ll use mine regardless.
Want to buy the pads in bulk?
E-Bay - ARS Mat
60 mats for $12. They have a talcum powder scent when first heated, but it goes away. Used them last season, and seen just as many Deer as with the Therma-Cell pads. Learn to refill the butane cartridges yourself to save even more money.
How do we refill?
Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

How to videos on Youtube.
Basically, you remove the brass fitting from the cartridge. I use a pair of wire cutters to grip the fitting below the o-ring, and pry it off…where you removed the fitting you will find a plastic check valve…use a small screw, and screw it into the check valve and use a pair of pliers to pull it out…then, replace the brass fitting back into the cartridge. Use a can of butane fluid ( I buy from Lowes ) and insert the nozzle into the brass fitting, and press down, until the cartridge is refilled, about 1/2 inch from the top.
I think I get 10 or 12 refills from one can of Butane, so the cost is around 50 cents for a cartridge refill, and 60 cents for 3 pads ( listed above ) $1.10 VS $7.00
Not sure about here, just moved here, but everywhere I have been they are great!
“If you really love your country, you’re gonna have to love Moonshine!”
Just wish the took care of no seeums also. Used one in a place thick with skeeters and it worked great.

One of the best things ever invented IMHO. I hunt down in swamps of lowcountry (Dorchester Cty) and I would just as soon forget my bullets than forget my thermacell.
