thermostat housing problems

Ok guys, this is a little embarrassing but the housing for my thermostat (Yamaha C60TLRV) is cracked (it’s a long story). I’ve managed to rig it to work (and its been doing ok for a few years) but I would like to get it fixed. As you can see, the part that is cracked is part of the block. Can I take it somewhere (and feel free to say where) to get this welded back up? Or am I stuck with a mess…

Thanks for the advice ahead of time.

Tough call there, is it leaking from where it is cracked? Being cast aluminum that is them machined, it is probabbly a aluminum alloy with a high zinc content which can be tougher to weld, not impossible just takes right equiptment (tig with H/F) and a good welder. HappyBob on here probabbly has more info on the matter.

“Well worth the drive!”

I know you are going to think I am crazy, but give this a try…
take the bolt out
use a dremel tool and clean the area
clean up an even larger area arounf the damaged area
get the proper size bolt, and with the housing removed, set teh bolt in the hole.
use JB WELD, and fill the area, also, lap the jbweld arounf the area , and if needed use some masking tape to make a form. you are going to want the jbweld to be bigger and thicker than the damaged area for added strength.
if it doesnt hold, you are out 45 minutes and $10
with no real load on the area, it will probably last as long as the motor.

X2 on the JB Weld…we repaired an old Minneapolis Moline tractor water pump with JB Weld after it froze and cracked due to not having Anti-freeze in it. It was still working 20+ years later when we sold it. Another old tractor had one of the spark plug threads stip out and JB Weld fixed that too…you could even remove the spark plug and reinstall it…That truly is amazing stuff!
