They had to come get me...Thank you BoatUS

Stono river inlet, incoming tide. It was getting ugly about 1/2hr before he showed up. It was a little dicey with the waves and big swells at the inlet breakers but other than that, it went very smoothly. They were quick and professional. Best money I spent in a long time.

So,what was the problem?

If I had to guess I would say a little problem called ram Ficht.

Bingo!

Got home and had codes 81-86. 1-6 ignition coils open circuit. I broke out the service manual and troubleshot it. It needs the EMM rebuilt or replaced.

I knew better and I got it anyway. I talked to a lot of evinrude guys before I got it and they said since it already had a EMM rebuilt it should be ok since it was upgraded. Now I have to sell some blood plasma and possibly a corner of my liver to pay for another one.

Yea, didn’t you have trouble getting the guy to give it up? Hope it gets better for you!

Thanks! I hope it gets better as well. I really hope when I get this fixed it will be ok for a while. If not, I am going to be on a first name basis with the tow boat guys.

So did Boat US tow you back inshore through Stono Inlet? Or where you stranded in the inlet and they still came to pull you out?

Still trying to learn which tow companies will pull you back in through that particular inlet.
I think the sandbar 1+ miles out is still growing. I saw 4.8 feet depth out therea couple weekends ago, and last weekend couldn’t find much of a breaker free course on early incoming tide. Still, that’s that shortest way home.

He was about 600yds from Kiawah in the inlet & not near the breakers in 15ft of water.

Would he at least pull you slow enough so you could troll on the way in?
Mr Hardware

I saw a TowBoatUS boat in Bohicket marina this weekend. Is that a port that TowBoatUS works from?

Yes, TowBoat US Charleston has expanded and stations a response vessel at Bohicket

call dfi. they can rebuld it for you.

I don’t believe that any tow company will tow one thru the Stono inlet if one were broken down outside the outer bar due to the inlet being classified as “unnavigable” by the CG and a area of “shifting sand bars”. Insurance thing more then likely.

They have it right now. 609$ to fix it with supposedly beefed up components. DFI said this happens when they sit for a long time. I know this one sat for almost a year at a time. The engine only had 236 hrs total.

This is supposed to fix a lot of issues with the reliability of the engine. I hope so because the next large expense with this outboard will be replacing it.

I am excited. Tomorrow I get my module back from DFI. I hate looking at the boat in the driveway knowing I can’t run it. My kids are back from the Summer grandparent tour, so I told them I would take them tubing and wake boarding.

It should get quite the workout.
