CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina fishing crew has received illegal fishing citations from the U.S. Coast Guard.
The Coast Guard said in a news release that a boarding team issued the violations Thursday. The violations were issued east of Cape Romain, South Carolina, after the Coast Guard saw the crew set pots and retrieve them later in a prohibited area.
The Coast Guard found 800 pounds of illegally caught black sea bass on board.
The 44-foot fishing vessel is based in Little River. The Coast Guard didn’t identify the names of the captain or others working on the ship.
YES - BSB will go into a ordinary crab pot baited with squid or fish heads. Its legal - but like everything else - there are lots of restrictions. One good thing about trapping, you can easily release the short fish
Last name was Long they were a couple miles inside the imaginary line to protect the right whales this time of year.same as boats over 65 feet cant go over 10 knots just hope they dont do it for all boats inside 20 miles.
That’s a little t of sea bass. Is that a common way to catch them commercially?
I can not speak for BSB traps and how Commercial Guys catch them? I know when you see them in a fish market whole, you don’t see any hook marks in the mouth.
A long time ago I’ve seen Crab pots (like Natureboy stated) dropped in certain locations and retrieved on the way back in from some trolling or bottom bumping. At times it took the whole crew to pull it back in the boat. You couldn’t fit another fish in it. I’m sure it still goes on much more than people think.
