Been trying the dam area at night a few times before and after christmas which historically has been great there. Caught a few even a couple of keepers over 4 trips. Very slow. Its seems the fish are still up the lake and even still in marion pretty good. The reason i’m told is the sea run menhaden run was very late this yr, something like 2 to 3 weeks late. there return is what really pile the striper up around the (**(). They simply aren’t there yet. I’m still holding hope that it will happen soon. Anybody else had any luck !
Rick, that is the same that I have heard. The hadens have not shown up at all, yet. I have only been a few times with very poor results. I plan to go again, soon, so I can at least run my motor some. Who knows if/when they will show up in good numbers…

Do the menhaden actually come all the way up to the dam and through the lock? I’ve spent a lot of time on Moultrie, although mostly on shore, or in a jon boat at the Hatchery. Hadn’t ever seen any menhaden, just tons of shad or herring.
Yes, they do.

Thanks. I’ve fished Moultrie for years and didn’t know this.
Went and fished last night, in the fog, for about two hours. Pretty much dead!! I managed one bite that will be supper here in a little bit. It was a nice and fat 28"-29" stripa. It was definitely a nice surprise, but I would have loved to have caught a few more…
Oh yeah, I caught it on a 1oz bucktail out from the dam.
At times, I could cast and not see where the jig landed due to the humidity.

I have been seeing boats trolling the rocks by Bonneau Beach and doing pretty good. Dont know how they are fishing or exact sizes but they are Stripers.

Sorry I missed out on the fun the other night. It’s always a good night when no one can see where the bucktail is landing!

Fished for Stripers today from 230pm to 6pm. Put in at shortstay and road over to the east dike beside Bonneau. Didnt see many fish on the fish finder. Pulled about 10 feet out from rocks and trolled beside them. Marked the most fish I have ever seen on my fish finder up against the rocks. Caught my biggest Striper yet…24" and fat fat fat. Probably 9 lbs. Released him , healthy. Tried casting all around and nothing. Rode over to channel markers and trolled my stretch 25 and finally caught a fish in the channel…21" about 5 lbs. Birds are stacked up in front of short stay. Probably the most I have seen since the day me and my father caught 50 stripers in 2008. I bet nighttime fishing is fixing to be on fire if it isnt already. I have tried nighttime 3 times…still have not caught 1 at night. Get after them…it’s time !

I wonder if they are in the Rediversion at this point. We used to stand on the bank, near the bridges (upper side of the dam) and catch them on big bucktails.
Yep…I have caught them up there too. Where the water comes back out into moultrie…the rocks around there hold BIG BASS and Stripers !

Starting to get some flow in the RE-diversion again, might be worth a try.
