thinking of trying the kayak this weekend

I am thinking of trying the kayak for some stripers this weekend. The weather has not been cooperative for me since before Christmas! Does anyone have some recommendations for a put in location?
I know that there have not been much opportunity for anyone, but being limited area to work from being in a yak, I wanted to see what everyones thoughts are.

Thanks!

I’m pretty sure this warm weather will change things for the weekend. WIth t Backs of creeks should warm up and draw the fish in. I would try Bear Creek or Crystal lake. I think the wind is going to be out of the south or south east all week, should make that side warmer. This time of year can get tough with fish transitioning.

They should still be where we were at in Dec. that cove on port side just before I hit 'em is usually the best . I’m tight on $ or I would try to fish with you. Otherwise ,if you think they are moving to the big water-there is an underwater ridge running east to west from camp site 54/56 ( the gap)(paddle zig -zag N to S …bottom goes from 15-20 to 40-60 ) you have to paddle around the island from launch if you aren’t camping .You can buy bait on the way in to Island or from George in his boat in the marina . Ya’ll guy’s know if George is still selling bait in the marina ? ( You have to paddle out to his boat for those) Crystal lake was my first striper from a canoe(in the month of Jan.) but I don’t like the boat traffic there and have usually been able to find them where we were at. ( watch the birds & look on your map for an “underwater corral”- that ain’t a pretty rock reef for you city guys ! :stuck_out_tongue:)

Any luck jczc2414 ?

No, I never made it down. My back is still bugging me from shovelling snow, and I had to replace my water heater last Friday ($1400), and a laundry list of things that had to get down “after” the water heater was replaced and I had room to do it…

Anyway, I may try for this Friday, but I also have to get down to the coast and work on the boat as well - just a big balancing act.

I saw from the reports that last Saturday would have been a great day, except for the bass boats flying up and down the water way. Perhaps a weekday things will be much quieter. Boatwork might just have to come Sunday afternoon!

Murrayfisherman,
Hey I’m going to give it another try tomorrow. I will probably try to get out on the water by around 10 if you can make it. Just going to let it warm up a little bit.
