Third Pair of Speakers

I have a pair of 6" Poly-Planers facing forward in my console.

I have another pair of 6" Poly-Planers in the sides, facing the gunwales.

It’s hard to hear the side facing speakers in the cockpit. Poly-Planer makes a 3" speaker. I’m thinking about mounting a pair in the dash, facing the driver. I’m planning on wiring them in serial from the side speakers.

Is this a bad idea?

I don’t want to blast everyone out of the boat, just want to be able to hear some tunes while underway.

Thanks

Nah, it’s not a bad idea. You’ll be running an 8-ohm load from your CD player, so the four total speakers (side console + the new dash speakers) will not play as loud as just the two on the side of the console do now, but you’ll be able to hear it fine.

The right way to do it is to come directly from the head unit to the speakers. You could wire them in series but you wouldn’t get the performance that the speake
rs are capable of.
Do it the right way the first time; you’ll be glad you did.

That would be the easy way to do it, but I thought that was the same as wiring them in parallel; which I thought was a bad thing.(?)

If you get a small amp, you could run the four front speakers on that coming from the front outputs of the head unit and run the 2 new speakers directly off the rear outputs.

Happy boatin’ y’all!!

I was hoping to avoid adding an amp.

That’s a good idea though.
