this winter

I wasnt fishing back in 06’ back when they brought the lake down last time. My question is what ramps will be usable up top? 8’ I am sure would make some of them a little iffy. I use barstow about 95% of the time if planning to fish both rivers. Occasionally I will use 3,4, or big mans if dedicating a whole day in the big. Will akl of these be usable minus 8’.

Side note: call me a tree hugger if ya wont, but I figure there will be alot of nice fish caught this yr. Something we do on my boat in the winter is releasing all double digit fish. 10#+ swims away. Keep the party fish. I know people arent going to do this during a tx, but i am just talking about fun fishing. Lets turn the double digit fish back

Nothing wrong with that…I released 95% of the fish I caught last Winter. Totally up to who was in the boat if we kept.

I rarely keep fish unless I am going to cook them that weekend or they will not live. I totally support releasing the larger fish. In fact I think some folks should really show their dedication and do it on tournament day. I am sure it would catch on!!

Agreed, although not so much in poundage … We go by length … If it’s over 30" then it gets a picture and put back in the water …

Additionally, if it can’t be consumed within the next couple of days, then if gets put back in the water … We don’t like “frozen” fish …

Not sure it that helps the fishery any, but I sleep well at night …

it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish now!!!

Shoot I’d have to catch some to keep any but I agree its important to protect all fisheries. I wonder how the regulation in the lower Saluda system are benefitting the fish are they catching larger stripers in the last few years?

We release every striper we catch, unless he has no chance at recovering (rare). Wouldn’t it be great to get back to a point where we had a legitimate chance at hooking a 10 or 15# striper every time we went out? Think it is possible with better management, maybe a slot limit, which is basically what y’all are doing.

I’m not sure about the ramps. I will keep an eye on Acapulco and #3 and advise the board of what I see.
Also, I’m not trying to stir up anything… but isn’t it the larger stripers that are most stressed during the hot summer months? I understand and practice a lot of catch and release. Mostly I used to release largemouth, or only keep the smaller ones which have a lesser chance of successfully spawning. I will release stripers unless someone else wants them. I’m know not an expert, but after one trip to the oxygenated waters of the Hill with Fogman, seeing what was there, how big and healthy those stripers were, I’m pretty much convinced that what Murray needs is a similar system to help keep the larger fish alive and well. Maybe I’m the only one that feels this way, but that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it until someone convinces me that I’m wrong. Feel free to do so. I’ve been wrong before.

I would love to see something like the savannah river chains. Think there’s is 2 fish over 26" but 10 fish limit with no size limit. Probably has to do with the hybrids mixed in with the striper population.

all the conservation comments are great but anyone have info on the ramps at -8’…lol…that kind of gets lost in the message

ramp 3 and the ramp closest to the dock at big man’s will be useable.shull island should be safe also.gotta get my boat back running.

I am really only speaking about the fall, winter, and springtime. That is when most of the very large stripers are caught. there is nothing we can do about the summertime follow the rules. A slot system will not work on Murray until we get an oxygen system which we will never see.
