Good deals to be had out there on this gun - anyone have one who can offer ■■■■■■■■?

looking at a whole setup with sub MOA guarantee and 4-12x40 AO scope for just under $300…

I’ve shot a few of T/C’s bolt guns and to be honest, I haven’t been impressed. There are a lot of rifles on the market, in all price ranges, that offer sub MOA “out of the box guarantees” now so that’s not quite as much of a big deal as it used to be. I don’t like the ergonomics of the rifle or the movement of the action/bolt.

Plus, most of the time (not all of the time), the scopes included on packages tend to be lesser-quality optics. The “weak point” on most rifle packages is the scope but, in my opinion, the scope is the most important component. If you can’t see’em, you can’t shoot’em regardless of what the rifle can do.

“…be a man and PM me.”

That is disappointing but i probably should have guessed that to start.

I handled a T+C “icon” in carolina rod + gun that was nice but was on consignment asking browning money for it… I think i would rather have an a-bolt I or II or a win m70 for that kind of $$.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve done dumber things for more money. If I were to buy this package, the first thing I’d do is throw the scope in the trash and go buy new glass. Granted, you’ll spend more on the glass than the rifles, especially at that price, but that’s not a terrible thing.

I hear they shoot well but again, accuracy “guarantees” are a dime a dozen anymore. Rifles of all price points have them now. For me, it was simply a matter of how the rifle felt on the shoulder and the action/bolt.

“…be a man and PM me.”

Sub MOA guarantee with what? Not every gun is going to shoot the same load the same way even in the same model. It’s a cheap bargain rifle with an optic that is about as useful as a toilet paper roll with Saran Wrap over it taped to the top. Package guns always have crap on top no matter who the manufacturer is. Wait until after deer season or Christmas and start looking at the sales going on. Remember, the rifle is only as good as the optic mounted on top and the person behind the trigger.

Were I looking at a budget rifle, I’d look at the Ruger American and the Savage Axis or one of the Cabelas/Bass Pro exclusive models then add a decent optic from there.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I can’t speak for T/C, but I do know some rifle manufacturers with “accuracy guarantees” put that rifle’s test target in the box with the ammo used written on the target.

The only manufacturer that issues a MOA guarantee worth a (**() is Sako, 5 shots consecutive. Everyone else issues a 3 shot MOA guarantee based on a certain ammo and certain parameters. 9/10 that isn’t the box of Remington Cor-Locts or bargain junk Bo is going to be using or taking into account his shooting skills. Ergo, the guarantee isn’t worth the paper it is printed on.

I’ve got a drawer full of those test targets. Some I couldn’t duplicate with the ammo used or the best hand-load I could come up with. Others, I far exceeded the test target. Most guns will shoot circles around the guy behind the trigger with the right load though.

I’ve handled the TC Compass and I personally wouldn’t buy one but, I don’t buy junk either. The ones I stated above would do well on the bottom end of the spectrum. Or look in Pawn shops or Armslist later in the year, someone is bound to be unloading a “rifle that won’t shoot” because they missed a deer with it.

I’ve used all manner of ammo and for me the “junk” cor’locts pattern fantastic and consistent in .270 130 grain out of a m77 ruger. Granted after about 5 shots I have to let the rifle cool to keep a quarter pattern. I’m sure if I were competition shooting I’d be reloading my own though.

Just got Dad’s .308 auto, and have found it likes the core locts as well. Never have been able to get that rifle to do better than a 2" group no matter what ammo I use.

Savage is running a rebate on model 11 trophy hunters currently, 100$ off. Most stores stock them at 499$, so 399$ sell the Nikon that’s in it for 100$ and be 299$ plus tax and put good glass on it and roll.

I forgot about Savage’s 11/111 “trophy package.” It’s a decent price point rifle with good “out-of-the-box” accuracy. Plus, it comes with Savage’s Accu-trigger, that’s a plus. If I remember correctly, it comes with a 3-9x40 Nikon Pro-Staff scope. Not great glass but better glass (and warranty) than the typical Bushnell/Simmons glass that comes on most package rifles. Granted, while it is an affordable package, the package OP originally mentioned was under $300. This package will run in that $400-$500 (give or take $50) range. MSRP is over $600 (I think) but no one actually sells them at that price. PSA is a big account for Savage (owned by Vista Outdoor) so they’ll probably have some of these in-stock and, given the time of year, they may have’em marked down even more.

Great glass at a good price.

Throw that 100$ rebate in there and its a better deal. The accutrigger is okay until you drop a Timney or Rifle Basix trigger in it, then you will ditch the factory trigger on all your rifles. The best thing about the savage is the availability of aftermarket parts.

True, but now you’re talking about a trigger that costs nearly half as much as the rifle. Lol!!! Most people looking for a price point/package rifle aren’t going to drop that kind of coin on an aftermarket trigger. Granted, if they did, it would change their shooting life.
