Almaco are very tasty. Usually not as wormy as aj in my experiance.

Was on a charter and they told me no good and that ajs were better. I have no idea. Wikipedia says they can be sushi so who knows

good link for food values on Jacks

Almaco Jacks carry the worms just like AJ’s here. On the west coast and Hawaii they farm them and sell them as “Kona Kampachi” for a Sashimi grade product. If you don’t mind the worms (shark tapeworm larvae) then eat up!

Thanks Guys!

Had a couple small ones in it. Don’t think I want any Tapeworm Larvae[:0]!

Amber and Almacos caught in the gulf are excellent to eat.

BTW, the reason that I posted this was I thought I had read something previously stating they were awesome eating:face_with_head_bandage:. Referring to local fish.

Wonder how a chuck of one would work for a Grouper??

I caught one in the gulf a couple years back. About 8~10 lbs. Meat was white, firm, and no worms. Very good eating.
