Thoughts on Solo Skiff

Tough Love. I get it.

Hmmm…

up yours 23

I don’t come here to argue with anyone, but this in itself would raise a red flag with me…

$1850 plus add a small motor

If I were to custom build a boat like that, the materials alone using top quality materials, which is all I will use, would cost very close to $1,800 wholesale. Not counting labor and finish and hardware. Total price maybe $7,500.

But if it meets your needs and your budget and you are happy, it’s a good enough boat for you.

Larry, The Solo Skiff is a roto-molded product, not a custom built composite-one off design as you are referring. I agree - to design, build, and fit out a custom small boat with this boats target displacement, it would be very pricey as you stated, however this boat is not that…I thought this thread/post deserved this simple clarification for informative reasons, and no arguement intended sir. I appreciated your cordial response to my PM as well. Thank you :smiley::smiley:

All is good my friend :sunglasses:

I fish alone and this intrigued me.

I have. Its a pretty sweet rig. I love being able to stand up and monkey all around on this thing. My kayaks were just too tipsy. Although I would recommend a trolling motor, and not some gas power. Coming from a composite, home-built kayak, that is SUPER quite in the water, running up on fish with a Tohatsu 3.5 is a whole other animal. I’ve had reds torpedo out of sight, that I would have other wise been able to sneak up on in the 'yak. There really is LOTS of storage in this boat.

Cracker Larry: I know you can admit that any boat of this size is going to have considerable trade offs. Its always a balance of this or that.

With that said, a roto-solo solo is light years ahead of anything in its class. I own a composite version. (resin infused, real nice), I couldn’t pretend to come close to replicating this, from plans or a pipe dream, for any where near the price.

Having built a few boats in my day: for $1,800 or so the solo skiff is a god send for a lot of people

We’re all here to get out and do what we love: be on the water.

The solo skiff is going to enable a lot of people to get outside. And catch fish. Sounds good to me.
