Thoughts on sot vs sit in

I have had several sit in kayaks which I used to fish with, usually my 17 Perception Chinook. Lots of limitations but I hate having a wet bum. Just got in a 145 Perception Prism but not really feeling it. Any sit ins with storage in rear like a sot?

not aware of any sinks with a rear well. theres no reason not to fish from a sink though. carry a little less stuff and enjoy

I will say that with my limited yak experience, I fished a SOT and a SINK in the same day and for me there was no comparison. The SOT was much better suited to fishing, allowed for a lot more movement and was much more comfortable. Wet behind aside, I am looking to get another SOT for fishing.

i’ve got both. i prefer the SOT. No comparison as far as room and storage. i feel much safer in deep water in the SOT, as the SINK can do just what the acronym implies. My SINK will float just below the surface thanks to the bulkhead in the rear, but next to impossible to bail and hop back in.
i use my SINK for rivers, rocks, and colder off season paddling.

If you trust it for cold weather, then you trust it with your life.

I fished SINKs for 20 plus years before joining the SOT club. Float bags / bulkheads and PRACTICED deep water re-entry are both extremely important.

BTW - NOW IS THE TIME to be practicing your re-entry skills if you plan to fish this winter. You want to be able to go from on the yak, to in the water to BACK on the yak in about 30 seconds.

We actually used to have t-shirts made up with that on it and a paddler in a SINK upside down trying to breathe with the fishes with a red circle and a line thru it!
Some of the old Ocean Kayaks (original Scuppers and some Scramblers) had the logo on the boat till till the marketing guru (aka Mom) made us stop putting it on the yaks!

The speed at which one renters a kayak is directly proportional to the temperature of the water!

I’ve always paddled sinks til I started fishing. I fished a few times out of my sinks but it was much easier when someone loaned me a sot. The sots all feel clunky to paddle a distance compared to the sinks though.

I’d just get some waterproof pants if the wet butt factor is too much to bear.

Many sot kayaks are a little wet using scupper plugs will help

Most of the time fishing with the malibu stealth kayaks the only time I get a little wet is from the paddle water doesn’t come up in the scupper holes
