Thoughts on Suzuki?

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with a Suzuki? Looking at an '08 140hp. I’ve had yamaha, honda, and johnson 4-strokes and all of them have been fine, but don’t know much about the 'ol Suzuki and who/where works on them. Thanks for any information.

Johnson four strokes are Suzuki’s. I love my Suzuki DF140. It will push my McKee 45 on the GPS and cranks every time. I have not had one problem with it in 5 years.

I use mine quite a bit and haven’t had a single issue with my DF90. Had it 7 years almost to the day.

I have a buddy with one and he says nothing but positive things about it. I remember back 15-20 years ago they weren’t too well thought of. They had those ugly gray and gold cowlings, those were 2 strokes of course.

some good opinions in that link.

Pioneer 197

I’ve got a df 200 with about 1250 hours with absolutely no trouble. It had about 600 on it when I got it. Quiet, efficient and has plenty of power.

I have an 03 70hp four stroke. Great service. Great performance and absolutely the quietest motor that I know of.

Git an 07 df115 on my skiff,997 hrs not any issue, mostly fresh water use…

Thanks for all of that information.

Suzuki builds a great motor, but the 90-140 have had ALOT of internal corrosion issues.
catastrophic failures. mid section rotting out and letting exhaust gas in the cowling, even melting wiring harnesses
corrosion between the head and block on the bottom cylinder, letting water in the oil, etc…

also the 140 has an oil cooler, that corrodes out and allows the engine to pump all of its oil into the exhaust, and no more engine oil.

these are not issues I have only seen once, seen each of those issues many times.
search them on the hull truth.

i have suzuki 150s and they are great. tons of torque. in reading about the 140s, it seems they are quite overrated in power. there is way more than a 10hp difference between 140 and 150.

Get a Yamaha…

Had a Suzuki DF 175 on a Pioneer. 550 hrs when I sold it, and absolutely no problems. Super quiet and sipped fuel.
Also, it was extremely quiet and smooth when shifting into gear.

I run a Suzuki 225 EFI and never had a problem. Very strong and very reliable. I’m a Yamaha man myself but Suzuli is next best thing for me

LOL…

Got 2 DF 225’s on my boat. Awesome motors. Strong, quiet, reliable,6 year warrantee that I probably won’t need to use.

Chris, from what you have seen can I take comfort in the fact that I use mine in fresh water 90% of the time?
