Had all kinds of friends in town this weekend and today. Had two fraternity brothers and their co worker and family member here so the pressure was on me to put them on fish. Now that all the fishing is over and i have to go back to work:roll_eyes: I have to say i did a pretty good job. I cant even count all the fish we caught. Big reds, keeper reds, 19-22 inch trouts, small trouts,a few flounder,a big bonnet head, lots of lady fish, a few blue fish, small black tips, some croakers and a big ray. Went thru through probably 200 live shrimp but we had success with cut bait, gulps, white zoom flukes and top water too. Put my buddy on his biggest red ever and sent my other buddy home with a cooler full of nice sized trout and lower slot reds! Got to meet some new friends and caught what may have been one of my biggest low country reds(no measurement taken)Saw about 15 tailers but only managed to get one to bite. They were very easily spooked this time. Also, I threw my skitter walk and the line broke and so i went to get my plug.I grabbed it and the line tied to the lure, which i didnt see, got caught in the trolling motor and pulled that big ole rusty hook into my little finger. It went thru the tip and came out just behind my nail barely missing the bone. I know all of the methods of self hook removal and the method i chose for this one was the ER. They said there was no way in hell i could have gotten it out my self, even with the mono loop trick( it works in some situations) my dad showed me. Most importantly, I could tell that everyone that got on the boat was entertained the entire time and I got to spend time on the water with two of my closest friends! I’ll post some pics when my friend sends them to me, unless i forget to do it. Pics added.
That hook in the finger trick looked painful, just wondering were all the blood was? I bleed like a stuck pig when I get any cuts, etc… Guess that is the blood pressure meds and Plavix I’m on after my heart attack… Glad to hear you got it out without much pain and agony. My last fishing injury was an infected finger, got some mullet juice in a cut I had from braided line and in a week I had the biggest most painful finger I’d ever had, ended up having it drained and a wick put in it along with some anti inflammatories and antibiotics. Trying never to let that happen again.
Wish’n I was FISH’N, but have to be at work…
That hook in the finger story reminds me of a flounder tourney Yellabird and I fished one year. Line got caught in the prop, Yellabird was attempting to unwind the line from the prop while holding the hook. The tm rope slipped out of my hand and set the hook in his finger. Bad part was that it was a khale hook, and those things do not come out of flesh easily when buried to the bend.
Thanks guys. We had a blast! and yes that hook was very very painful. I hooked my self at the end of the first trip so i was careful to keep it clean on the last two. They gave me a bunch of antibiotics, which I am going to be sure to finish. Yea, chsgeo, that pic was in the car on the way to er. We stopped at the house to put the boat and truck up so i washed the finger with soap and water and then peroxide so all most of the blood came off. Before that, there was a ton of it.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
