Thought this would be an ez fix. Got the new ones hooked up and the shifting into fwd was fine. When I shifted into reverse, it revved the motor. Ok, so I thought switching the cables at the motor would solve. Now both fwd and reverse shifts rev the engine. Any thoughts would be more than appreciated…thanks
Was the box in neutral, and was the high idle lever down, when you switched the cables?
What make/model?
This probably is an ez fix, but it’s going to be hard to explain here.
…Politicians aren’t the “Oldest Profession”, but the results are still the same!!!
Yes. Ive got the cables square i believe and adjusted…It seems the culprit is a rubber nipple like part with a metal plate and a bar that pushes the pair up and it slips out. It makes a sharp sound when it does…
Honda efi 50
Thanks
Chris, it’s at the motor…I believe it’s called a neutral safety switch. Do you think this is a warranty issue?
Thanks so much
I need to replace my cables also. Where did you order yours from?
west marine stocks most lengths. Charleston Marine has them also i believe
sounds like you have the cables backwards
you have the shift connected to the throttle and the throttle connected to the shift.
the neutral safety switch doesnt have anythig to do with the actual shifting
